Job summary

DIRECTV invites you to join the Summer Intern program in Clarksburg, MD, to help the Product Development team tackle real-world problems related to customer experience using AI and ML. You’ll work on video solutions for the commercial market and build tools leveraging Python, PyTorch/TF, and OpenAI API.

We seek undergrad/grad students in AI/CS/SE/IT/DS who can write reproducible training scripts, evaluate models, and prototype end-to-end pipelines.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a four-year undergraduate or advanced degree in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or Data Science.
• Strong Python and ML ecosystem (NumPy, pandas); ability to write reproducible training/evaluation scripts.
• Assist in selecting the appropriate machine learning approach based on problem type and data.
• Support the end-to-end model development lifecycle: data collection, preprocessing, feature extraction and selection, training, and validation.
• Build and benchmark baseline models in Python (linear regression, decision trees, SVM) for classification and regression tasks.
• Linux/Android; Claude Code and OpenAI API tools.
• Apply unsupervised learning techniques: clustering, PCA, and association rule mining.
• Address overfitting/underfitting; perform bias-variance analysis during tuning and selection.
• Evaluate model performance with metrics and recommend evaluation criteria.
• Experiment with ensemble methods (bagging, boosting, random forests).
• Prototype deep learning architectures (CNNs, RNNs, transformers) using PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Experiment with generative AI setups (transformers, GANs).
• Cross-functional collaboration; strong presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop artificial intelligence and machine learning tools.
• Contribute to an AI-powered media intelligence platform that analyzes live and recorded video content.
• Work with video metadata, captions, transcripts, and AI/ML models to identify topics and enable natural-language search.
• Evaluate AI models, develop data-processing pipelines, and build prototype tools or dashboards for new use cases.
