Job summary

DIRECTV is offering a Summer Intern position for a hands-on AI/ML-focused role based in Clarksburg, MD. You will work with the Product Development team to build AI-powered video solutions for the commercial market, including data processing, model development, and evaluation.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a four-year degree in AI/CS/SE/IT/Data Science with strong Python and ML skills and a demonstrated ability to collaborate and present results to stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a four-year undergrad or advanced degree in AI, CS, software engineering, IT, or data science.
• Proficiency in Python and its ML ecosystem (NumPy and pandas) with the ability to write reproducible training scripts.
• Assist in selecting the appropriate ML approach (supervised, unsupervised, DL, or RL) based on data and problem type.
• Support end-to-end model development lifecycle: data collection, preprocessing, feature extraction, training and validation.
• Build and benchmark baseline models in Python (e.g., linear regression, decision trees, SVM) for classification and regression tasks.

Responsibilities

• Develop AI/ML tools and prototypes for video content analysis.
• Contribute to an AI-powered media intelligence platform components for the commercial market.
• Work with video metadata, captions, transcripts, and AI/ML models to enable topic detection and natural-language search.
• Evaluate models, develop data-processing pipelines, and explore embeddings and semantic search.
• Prototype deep learning architectures (CNNs, RNNs, transformers) using PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Experiment with generative AI setups, including language models and GANs for synthetic data.
• Collaborate across teams and present findings to stakeholders.
