Job summary

Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State seeks an AI/ML Engineer to lead the IV&V and Data Curation Center of Excellence in State College, PA or Reston, VA. You will drive data labeling, curation, governance, and scalable data pipelines across data modalities, collaborating with researchers and program stakeholders.

The role requires strong Python/SQL, ML fundamentals, and experience with annotation tools like CVAT/Label Studio; DoD-relevant data experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as Computer Science, Data Science, Information Science or Engineering.
• Experience designing and managing data curation, annotation or IV&V workflows for AI/ML systems.
• Deep understanding of ML fundamentals and impact of data on model performance.

Responsibilities

• Lead the IV&V and Data Curation Center of Excellence, setting priorities and standards.
• Mentor a team performing data labeling, curation, and IV&V across modalities.
• Design data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, QC and cataloging of classified and open-source data.
