Job summary

Penn State’s Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) seeks an AI/ML Engineer to lead IV&V and Data Curation Center of Excellence within A2SO. The role supports data labeling, governance, and ML data readiness for operational AI models, with work locations in State College, PA or Reston, VA.

The candidate will guide a multidisciplinary team, advance data standards, and coordinate with researchers and sponsors to translate data needs into actionable plans.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science required.
• Extensive experience designing and managing data curation, annotation, or IV&V workflows for AI/ML systems.
• Strong understanding of ML fundamentals and data impact on training, evaluation, deployment.

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical lead for IV&V and Data Curation Center of Excellence; set priorities and drive direction.
• Mentor a team of engineers performing data labeling, annotation, curation, and IV&V across modalities.
• Design data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, QC, and cataloging of classified and open-source data.
