Job summary

Bain & Company in Chicago is hiring a Senior ML Engineer to join the PEG Innovation team. You will build and maintain data and ML pipelines powered by RAG, embedding, and retrieval components.

You will work with Data Engineers, Data Scientists, and the Agent/AI squad to ship reliable production code and own parts of the ingestion and serving stack. The role emphasizes production readiness, observability, and collaboration, with a hybrid in-office requirement and a strong emphasis on code review,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in a technical field.
• 2+ years building software, data, or ML systems.
• Exposure to model deployment or monitoring is a plus.
• Experience with Python and production pipelines or services.
• Strong collaboration with Data Engineers/Scientists on retrieval/ML features.
• Comfort with Docker and Git in a team setting.

Responsibilities

• Implement and maintain production data and ML pipelines: ingestion jobs, feature and embedding pipelines, and Celery-based workers.
• Build pieces of the RAG and retrieval stack: chunking, embeddings, indexing into pgvector, basic retrieval and re-ranking.
• Write production-quality Python with tests and linting; code reviews before merge.
• Instrument pipelines with logs and metrics; contribute dashboards and alerts.
• Triage and fix bugs in pipelines and serving code; escalate issues when needed.
• Collaborate with Data Engineers and Data Scientists on larger workstreams and reviews.
