Job summary

OpenAI in San Francisco is seeking a Senior Rack Power Engineer to design, qualify, and support power systems for AI supercomputers.

You will own rack power architecture, coordinate with firmware, hardware, and data center teams, and drive supplier development from requirements through deployment.

The role requires 10+ years in power electronics and a master’s in Electrical Engineering, with relocation assistance and a hybrid weekly schedule.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Electronics.
• 10+ years in power electronics or power delivery.
• Expertise with AC/DC rectifiers, PSUs, three-phase inputs, busbars.
• Experience with PMCs, telemetry, and fault management.
• Strong lab and debugging skills with test equipment.

Responsibilities

• Own rack power architecture and requirements for high-power AI systems, including power budgets and DC distribution.
• Drive design and supplier development of power shelves, rectifiers, PSUs, PMCs, busbars, connectors, and protection circuits.
• Define and execute qualification plans covering load transients, hot-swap, redundancy, and ride-through.
• Partner with firmware/software teams to define PMC functionality, telemetry, alarms, and fault handling.
• Characterize rack power under AI workloads and translate into design margins and deployment requirements.
• Establish fleet rack power health metrics and analyze telemetry to detect faults.
• Lead lab and fleet debugging across power hardware and firmware; drive corrective actions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to take power systems through prototype, qualification, production, and deployment.
• Evaluate emerging rack power technologies and qualify viable solutions with suppliers.
