Job summary

TrendAI, the security unit of Trend Micro, seeks a Threat Detection & Response Engineer to research AI-era threats and build detection capabilities. This mid-level IC role combines threat research with hands-on engineering and collaborates with threat intel, detection engineering, and AI/ML teams.

You will translate findings into production-ready improvements while advancing toward senior roles, working with senior architects and researchers in a fast-paced security research environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years in cybersecurity, software engineering, or related field with threat detection exposure.
• Experience building or contributing to production systems.
• Familiarity with security tooling and operational workflows.
• Basic familiarity with AI/ML concepts and MITRE ATT&CK.
• Proficiency in at least one language (e.g., Python).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Threat & technology research across AI-era threats and defenses.
• Detection engineering to integrate with security tooling and analyst workflows.
• Prototyping and evaluating new defensive approaches and documenting specs.
• Collaborating with threat intel, detection engineering, and AI/ML teams to operationalize research.
• Communicating findings clearly to teammates and stakeholders.
