Job summary

Trend Micro’s TrendAI unit seeks a mid-level Threat Detection & Response Engineer to research AI-era threats and build detection-and-response capabilities that strengthen the platform. This role blends threat research with hands-on engineering, collaborating across threat intel, detection engineering, and AI/ML teams to translate findings into production-ready improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years in cybersecurity, software engineering, or a related technical field, with exposure to threat detection and response.
• Experience building or contributing to technical systems that reached production.
• Familiarity with security tooling and operational workflows, and an interest in how they integrate.
• Basic familiarity with AI/ML concepts and their application to threat detection, and awareness of MITRE ATT&CK.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Threat & technology research. Investigate emerging AI-era threats and summarize findings for the team.
• Detection engineering. Build, test, and refine detection-and-response capabilities that integrate with existing security tooling.
• Prototyping & experimentation. Develop and evaluate prototypes to test new defensive approaches.
• Collaboration. Partner with detection engineering, data science, and platform teams toward production-ready capabilities.
• Communication. Convey research findings clearly to teammates and stakeholders.
