Job summary

GBH offers a part-time paid internship in the GBH Archives to test new workflows for cataloging audiovisual items. The role blends in-person and remote duties, under guidance from the Metadata Operations Manager. You will explore AI-assisted cataloging and reflect on human-computer roles in data creation.

The internship requires current enrollment in an undergrad or graduate program, with 15 hours/week. Compensation is $17/hour, and the work site is 1 Guest Street, Boston, MA.

Qualifications

• Experience with asset management systems, database systems, and/or cataloging.
• Working knowledge of basic archival principles for arrangement, description, and access.
• Experience with name authority control is a plus.
• Interest in data processing or software development.
• Working knowledge of the Bash shell and Python are a plus.
• Strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Perform item-level cataloging of videos and test cataloging workflows.
• Test, compare, and evaluate new iterations of cataloging software and workflows.
• Explore large-scale authority control related to crediting contributors.
• Familiarize with the PBCore metadata schema.
• Meet and receive mentorship from GBH Archives staff.
• Write a capstone blog post on humans vs. computers in archival work.
