Job summary

GBH Archives is offering a part-time paid internship in Boston, MA, combining in-person and remote duties. The intern will assist with testing and implementing new cataloging workflows, review automatically extracted data, and contribute to AI-assisted cataloging projects under supervision.

The role requires current enrollment in an undergrad or graduate program, with 15 hours per week between 9am and 5pm, Monday through Friday, and a strong interest in archives, metadata, and data science.

Qualifications

• Experience with asset management systems, database systems, and/or cataloging.
• Basic archival principles for arrangement, description, and access.
• Experience with name authority control is a plus.
• Interest in data processing or software development.
• Familiarity with Bash shell and Python is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Perform item-level cataloging of videos in the American Archive of Public Broadcasting.
• Test, compare, and evaluate new iterations of cataloging software and workflows.
• Explore new approaches to large-scale authority control related to crediting contributors.
• Become acquainted with the PBCore metadata schema.
• Meet and receive mentorship from GBH Archives staff.
• Write a capstone blog post reflecting on humans vs. computers in archival description.
