Job summary

GBH Archives in Boston offers a part-time internship blending in-person and remote work. You’ll work with the Metadata Operations Manager to test workflows for cataloging audiovisual items and explore AI-assisted methods, with mentorship provided.

The role requires 15 hours per week, typically 9am–5pm, and is open to current undergrad or graduate students in library science or archives. Compensation is $17/hour.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program in Library Science or Archives.
• Experience with asset management, databases, or cataloging.
• Interest in data processing or software development; Bash and Python a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work 15 hours/week in a hybrid schedule.

Responsibilities

• Perform item-level cataloging of audiovisual items for the American Archive of Public Broadcasting.
• Test, compare, and evaluate new iterations of cataloging software and workflows.
• Explore new approaches to large-scale authority control for credits in TV/radio productions.
• Become acquainted with the PBCore metadata schema and mentorship from GBH Archives staff.
• Write a capstone blog post reflecting on human vs. computer roles in archival description.
