Job summary

Vertafore, a leading insurance tech company, is seeking an AI Engineering Leader to own delivery for a core AI domain. You will manage a team of engineers, contribute to architecture, and stay hands-on with code while driving production-ready AI features for North American clients.

The role requires 5+ years in ML/AI, strong Python and LangChain skills, and experience deploying AI systems on AWS. Travel up to 10% and office-based work are noted.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in machine learning, AI engineering, or applied data science.
• 1-3+ years of direct people management or tech lead experience with team delivery.
• Hands-on production experience with LLM-powered apps, agentic workflows, document extraction pipelines, or classical ML systems.
• Proficiency in Python and familiarity with LangChain/LangGraph, vector databases, prompt engineering, and model evaluation tooling.
• Experience deploying and operating AI systems in a cloud environment (AWS preferred).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for design reviews and stakeholder updates.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Lead a high-performing AI engineering team of 4-8 engineers, with 1:1s and career development.
• Own end-to-end delivery of AI features from design to production and observability.
• Review code, set engineering standards, and unblock the team when needed.
• Build and operate production AI systems including LLM-powered features and ETL pipelines.
• Collaborate with product managers to translate problems into roadmaps.
• Engage with customers or success teams to ground work in real-world usage.
