Job summary

Amentum in Hanover, MD is seeking an AI Engineer to design, build, and deploy AI capabilities for classified environments. The role focuses on retrieval-augmented generation, fine-tuning open-weight LLMs, and secure serving on Government infrastructure.

You will bridge data science and software engineering, work in a hybrid office, and help customers adopt responsible AI while maintaining strict security and compliance.

Qualifications

• Experience designing, building, and deploying at least one RAG application with document ingestion and vector stores.
• Experience fine-tuning or adapting open-weight LLMs and measuring results against benchmarks.
• Experience hosting and serving models on GPU infrastructure with deployment tooling.
• Delivery of AI capabilities in disconnected or classified environments with ATO support.
• Ability to build access controls ensuring content matches clearance and need-to-know.
• Experience with guardrails for LLM outputs and prompt-injection defenses.
• Proficiency in Python and at least one LLM orchestration framework.
