This position is responsible for designing and developing backend and systems software for high-performance, production-critical environments. The role has a strong focus on systems architecture, Rust development, APIs, performance, and reliability, with ownership extending from initial design through deployment and ongoing optimization.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, and support backend services, APIs, and systems software, with Rust as a primary development language.
- Own significant areas of the technology stack, from architectural decisions and implementation through testing, performance, reliability, and production support.
- Make thoughtful architecture decisions with consideration for scalability, maintainability, security, performance, and operational requirements.
- Help establish and maintain high engineering standards across code quality, testing, code reviews, documentation, and software lifecycle management.
- Develop systems software where reliability, security, efficiency, and consistent behavior are essential to the product.
- Incorporate AI-powered development and agent-based tools into the engineering workflow while maintaining strong ownership of code quality, testing, validation, and technical outcomes.
- Help shape team standards around the responsible and effective use of AI-assisted development tools, including review processes and quality expectations.
Desired Background
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent hands-on industry experience.
- 6+ years of experience developing and delivering backend or systems software in production environments.
- Strong proficiency in Rust, or significant systems-programming experience with C, C++, or Go along with the ability to work effectively in Rust.
- Working knowledge of C++ and Python.
- Solid understanding of backend and systems design, including APIs, distributed and concurrent systems, Linux, reliability, and performance optimization.
- Experience incorporating AI-assisted or agent-based development tools into engineering workflows, with the ability to independently review, test, secure, refine, and take ownership of AI-generated code.
