Job summary

Robots & Pencils is seeking an AI Engineer to contribute to the development and delivery of AI/ML systems. This early-career role offers hands-on ownership and real responsibility in a collaborative, cross-functional team that ships production-ready AI in short cycles.

You'll work with senior engineers to build pipelines, improve capabilities, and ensure reliability and quality while growing your craft and impact within client projects across real-world workflows.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience with AI/ML systems.
• Solid software foundation in Python.
• Foundational knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Exposure to building or contributing to agentic AI systems with more senior engineers.
• Familiarity with AI frameworks and observability practices for LLM apps.
• Awareness of AI safety, responsible AI principles, prompt injection risks, and PII handling.
• Experience with Docker for containerized deployments and Kubernetes.
• Experience using AI-forward coding tools such as Claude Code and Cursor.

Responsibilities

• Build and ship AI/ML and LLM-powered features in production.
• Implement AI/ML pipelines from data ingestion through model deployment.
• Contribute to prompts, evaluations, retrieval, and tool integrations.
• Handle data preprocessing, feature engineering, and evaluation.
• Collaborate with a distributed cross-functional team to move projects forward.
• Document experiments, results, and model decisions clearly.
• Participate in code reviews and team discussions.
