Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, a quantitative discipline, or equivalent demonstrated practical experience.
• Demonstrable experience building AI prototypes or agentic projects (internship, coursework, research, personal projects, or employment).
• Ability to generate code using AI-assisted coding tools in an IDE and to read, explain, test, and troubleshoot what those tools produce.
• Familiarity with SQL and cloud data platforms (Databricks, Azure, AWS, or equivalent).
• Working knowledge of version control (Git) and collaborative development practices.
• Strong problem solving and communication skills; ability to present technical work to nontechnical stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and communicate status without close supervision.

Trinity Industries is looking for an AI Engineer Associate for our office in Dallas, TX. You will build and deploy agentic AI applications that business teams across the enterprise use daily, working with large language models, agent frameworks, and AI-assisted coding. You will take solutions from prototype through production within the team's established architecture, code review, deployment, and governance practices, with guidance from experienced engineers.

What You'll Do:

• Design, prototype, and deliver agentic systems that plan and execute multi-step business tasks, including the connectors and integrations to internal systems and APIs they depend on.
• Implement agent controls as a core part of the build: evaluation against defined success criteria, scoped and secure tool access, human approval steps where actions carry business or financial risk, and monitoring of agent behavior in production.
• Produce code and deployable artifacts using AI-assisted generation, and read, explain, test, and troubleshoot that code before it ships.
• Deploy and support applications through the team's source control, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines — including triaging issues and iterating after launch.
• Apply data governance and access-control practices to every solution you build, in partnership with data engineering.
• Collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, data engineers, and business stakeholders to gain in-depth knowledge of business problems and likely solutions.
• Demo results and deliver concise handoff docs, runbooks, and impact metrics.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

• Experience working with unstructured text and retrieval approaches (RAG or index + LLM patterns) for document/question answering.
• Comfortable integrating services via REST APIs and using secure authentication patterns.
• Exposure to CI/CD tooling (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar) and deploying applications through automated pipelines.
• Experience building or working with data/workflow pipelines or orchestration tools, or familiarity with the concepts of scheduling and task orchestration.
• Exposure to observability practices for deployed applications: logging, cost tracking, and basic drift checks.
• Exposure to data governance concepts such as catalogs, lineage, and role-based access control.

Growth Path

This is an entry-level role with opportunity to progress into a more senior individual contributor role. You will work on enterprise platforms (Databricks and Palantir Foundry) using enterprise-provided AI development tools and take on increasing ownership across the application lifecycle starting within established patterns and moving toward leading projects end-to-end as your experience grows.
