Job summary

Solomon Page has been retained to find an AI-focused Software Engineer for a mid-sized VC firm in New York City. You will design data models, build pipelines and APIs, and take problems from ambiguous statements through production use.

The role reports to the Head of Data and Analytics and collaborates with Investment and Engineering teams. The position requires strong Python and SQL skills, experience with production systems, and the ability to work with structured and unstructured data.

Qualifications

Solomon Page has been retained to find an AI-focused Software Engineer for a mid-sized VC firm in NYC that is looking to build the data and software foundation behind its next generation of internal tools, including AI-assisted research, retrieval, knowledge systems, and investment workflows. Much of this work is ultimately a transformation of firm information: a document into structured facts, a schema into something a model can reason about, and statement into positions. These systems repeatedly confront the same questions: Where did this come from? What kind of claim is it? How much should we trust it? And who is allowed to see it? This role will help build the next generation of data platforms for the firm and serve as a focal point for the engineering and adoption of these AI systems. You will report to and develop AI strategies alongside the Head of Data and Analytics.

• Location: New York City
• Schedule: In-office 4 days per week, working closely with the Investment and Engineering teams

Responsibilities:

• Design the data models, interfaces, and services the firm's tooling is built on — and be the person who understands them afterward.
• Build the pipelines and APIs that move firm information from source systems into those models, structured and unstructured alike.
• Take problems from ambiguous statement through production use.
• Build the tools people use on top of it and integrate feedback directly from users.

Required Qualifications:

• 4–7 years of professional software engineering experience preferred.
• Experience designing and maintaining production systems you were personally accountable for, rather than only prototypes.
• Strong Python skills and comfort with SQL, databases, APIs, and data pipelines.
• Experience working across both structured and unstructured data.
• Strong judgment around data models, system boundaries, and failure modes, with a preference for the legible version over the clever one.
• Comfort taking an ambiguous problem from initial design through production use, largely on your own.
• Ability to clearly explain technical decisions and the tradeoffs behind them, both in writing and verbally.
