Job summary

Lamp Rynearson, Inc. is seeking a full-time Emerging Technology & AI Strategy Lead in Omaha to guide adoption of AI and emerging tech across the firm. This ground-breaking role reports to the COO and will build a company-wide technology function from scratch.

Responsibilities include setting strategy, evaluating new software, coordinating with IT/CAD, and delivering measurable increases in technology literacy and tool adoption across engineering and operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, data science, information systems, or related field — or equivalent hands-on experience.
• 2–10 years in a technology, software development, data, or IT strategy role, including evaluating and implementing new technology.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, JavaScript/TypeScript) to build internal tools and automate workflows.
• Practical experience applying AI/ML tools, LLM-based tools, automation platforms, low-code/no-code AI to real business problems.
• Strong communicator who can translate technical ideas for non-technical staff and translate business problems into technical solutions.

Responsibilities

• Set the firm's AI and emerging technology strategy and build a practical, sequenced roadmap for adoption across engineering, project delivery, and operations.
• Continuously research new software and technology relevant to civil engineering practice and make build/buy/adopt recommendations.
• Coordinate activities with IT Group and CAD Manager.
• Design, build, and maintain internal tools, scripts, and automations that solve real workflow problems for staff.
• Provide hands-on troubleshooting, support, and informal training for staff across offices.
• Partner with COO and leadership on budget, priorities, and ROI reporting for technology initiatives.
• Establish guardrails around data security and responsible AI use and vendor evaluation.
• Drive change management and technology literacy across engineers.
