Job summary

Onbe is seeking a Software Development Engineer to advance AI-driven coding within Java microservices using Java 21+ and Spring Boot 3. The role emphasizes designing, building, and operating production-grade services in Azure, with a focus on secure REST APIs and event-driven integration.

You will collaborate with SMEs and vendors to modernize legacy monoliths into distributed services, owning architecture and reliability, while ensuring robust testing, security, and production readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering with Java
• Strong Java 21+ and Spring Boot
• Hands-on AI-assisted software engineering tools experience (Claude Code)
• Experience modernizing monoliths to microservices or cloud-native architectures
• Experience with relational databases and SQL
• Experience with JUnit, Mockito, and contract testing
• Docker and Kubernetes; Azure Kubernetes Service preferred
• Cloud experience, preferably Azure
• CI/CD, Git, Maven or Gradle, deployment automation
• Ability to evaluate AI-generated code for correctness and security

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and operate production-grade Java microservices using Java 21+ and Spring Boot 3.
• Decompose legacy Java and SQL monoliths into independently deployable services with SMEs/vendor.
• Own the domain service architecture, reliability, and evolution.
• Bring modern engineering perspective to legacy code and processes.
• Develop and maintain secure RESTful APIs.
• Implement event-driven integrations using Azure Service Bus.
• Design data access with JPA/Hibernate, JDBC, and Azure SQL/SQL Server.
• Build automated tests (unit/integration/API/contract) with TDD.
• Use AI coding agents to generate/refactor/test/document code and review output.
• Containerize and deploy with Docker/Kubernetes and Azure Kubernetes Service.
• Contribute to CI/CD, infrastructure automation, secrets, observability, and production support.
• Monitor performance and participate in incident response.
• Collaborate with product/architecture/security/QA/business-domain teams.
