Job summary

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. in San Jose is seeking a design automation engineer to help build AI-powered engineering platforms for chip design teams. You will develop scalable backend data pipelines, data schemas, and AI/LLM-driven capabilities to transform how engineers access and leverage engineering data.

You will work across software and hardware teams, design robust data models, and optimize retrieval and knowledge-graph components to accelerate CPU/GPU/AI accelerator development.

Qualifications

• Strong Python engineering background with rigorous testing in a large codebase.
• Experience with graph databases and vector search for retrieval workloads.
• Experience with LLM-based/agentic systems: retrieval-augmented generation and tool-use.
• Familiarity with RTL/HDL semantics and HDL toolchains for hardware design.
• Experience with time-series/relational data stores and cross-backend consistency.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend data pipelines turning engineering data into structured representations.
• Evolve data schemas to support new data types at production scale.
• Build AI/LLM-based components enabling natural-language querying of engineering data.
• Diagnose and fix reliability and performance issues in distributed batch pipelines.
• Design new pipelines to bring additional engineering data domains onto the platform.
• Tune LLM components for accuracy, cost, and latency.
• Own a TDD-driven development workflow with version control and code reviews.
• Collaborate with architecture, verification, and design teams to translate needs into platform capabilities.
