GitLab Inc. is seeking a Director of Analytics Engineering to lead a team of eight, directing data strategy across semantic modeling, BI tools, and AI-enabled data access.

You will partner with Data Engineering, Data Science, IT, and business leaders to drive governance, cost control, and scalable data products. You will shape the data architecture, oversee self-service analytics, and build production-grade data applications that leverage Snowflake, APIs, and AI capabilities, while maintaining

Qualifications

• 12+ years in analytics engineering, data engineering, or BI, including 5+ years leading teams
• 2+ years managing managers or senior leads
• Deep expertise in data modeling, semantic layers, and SQL-based pipelines

Responsibilities

• Build and own a trusted semantic model with governed metrics across tools
• Lead evals and ground-truth datasets to measure answer quality
• Instrument telemetry to monitor model usage and user questions
• Develop a model-selection harness to route work across LLMs and control costs
• Own data modeling and curated datasets for self-service with data contracts and testing
• Define AI data access strategy for BI, Claude, MCP servers, and Slack agents
• Own enterprise BI and self-service tools strategy (Tableau, Omni) including adoption and cost
• Develop self-service capabilities (Claude skills, workflows) for data access
• Build and own company-wide data applications integrating Snowflake, APIs, and AI
• Set engineering standards for data apps (security, testing, deployment, monitoring)
• Set a long-range roadmap aligned to company strategy and reusable data products
• Hire, coach, and retain a high-performing team of 8
• Act as customer zero for GitLab and GitLab Duo in data workflows
