Job summary

Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a part‑time, internship‑style Clerk III to assist the Materials and Tests Division with AI and automation initiatives. The role focuses on applying emerging technologies to improve workflows, data collection, analysis, and reporting processes.

You will gain hands‑on experience in materials testing, documentation, and routine office tasks while contributing to efficient operations and strong customer service within a public agency environment.

Qualifications

• Must be a student in high school or other educational institution or accepted into a college, university or educational institution.
• Preferred qualifications include knowledge of AI concepts, research methodologies, data collection, documentation and effective communication.
• Strong customer service, teamwork and ability to follow instructions.

Responsibilities

• Answers the telephone, routes messages and serves as receptionist or front desk assistant.
• Maintains confidential information and records.
• Assists in inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment.
• Handles routine documents such as vouchers, personnel records, titles or registrations.
• Supports general warehousing duties and maintains warehouse records.
• Supports automation and AI initiatives for Materials and Tests Division workflows.
• Disseminates information to the public.
• Maintains files, logs, and records.
• Maintains radio contact with field units.
