Job summary

Referment is seeking an attorney in New York to advise on responsible AI adoption across investing, technology and business functions. Qualifications

Referment is working with a global investment and technology firm to hire an attorney who will advise on responsible adoption of AI across investing, technology and business functions. You will help teams pursue practical uses of AI while identifying and mitigating legal and regulatory risk in a commercially grounded way.

The role sits within Legal & Compliance and works directly with business development staff, investment professionals and technologists. It covers day-to-day advice on tools, vendors and data as well as the longer-term governance framework needed for emerging capabilities such as agentic AI.

The Role

• Advise teams on removing legal barriers to AI adoption without exposing the organisation to undue risk.
• Review new AI tools, vendor arrangements, data-use questions and proposed workflow integrations.
• Support the development and maintenance of the organisation's AI governance framework.
• Anticipate legal and regulatory implications of emerging AI capabilities and turn them into workable guidance.
• Draft policies and procedures and help establish systems that support compliance.

What We're Looking For

• A law degree and five to seven years' experience at a law firm, asset manager, financial-services or fintech business.
• Commercial judgment, excellent interpersonal skills and confidence making risk-based decisions.
• Interest in AI and experience integrating it into legal work; deep AI specialisation is helpful but not essential.
• In-house product-counsel or general advisory experience is preferred.
• Strong drafting, project management, communication and attention to detail.
