Job summary

Referment, working with a global investment and technology firm, seeks an attorney to advise on responsible AI adoption across investing, technology and business functions.

You will help teams pursue practical uses of AI while identifying and mitigating legal and regulatory risk in a commercially grounded way. The role sits within Legal & Compliance and collaborates with business development, investment professionals and technologists.

Qualifications

• Law degree and 5–7 years of post-qualification experience in a legal advisory or counsel role.
• Experience in law firms, asset managers, financial services or fintech with commercial focus.

• In-house product-counsel or general advisory experience preferred.
• Interest in AI with ability to translate technical concepts into business guidance.

Referment is working with a global investment and technology firm to hire an attorney who will advise on responsible adoption of AI across investing, technology and business functions. You will help teams pursue practical uses of AI while identifying and mitigating legal and regulatory risk in a commercially grounded way.

The role sits within Legal & Compliance and works directly with business development staff, investment professionals and technologists. It covers day-to-day advice on tools, vendors and data as well as the longer-term governance framework needed for emerging capabilities such as agentic AI.

The Role

• Advise teams on removing legal barriers to AI adoption without exposing the organisation to undue risk.
• Review new AI tools, vendor arrangements, data-use questions and proposed workflow integrations.
• Support the development and maintenance of the organisation's AI governance framework.
• Anticipate legal and regulatory implications of emerging AI capabilities and turn them into workable guidance.
• Draft policies and procedures and help establish systems that support compliance.

What We're Looking For

• A law degree and a minimum of five to seven years of post-qualification experience, currently practicing in a legal advisory or counsel role.
• Direct experience within a law firm, asset manager, financial-services or fintech business, with a strong focus on commercial or investment-related matters.
• A distinguished academic record from a top-tier institution is highly regarded.
• Commercial judgment, excellent interpersonal skills and confidence making risk-based decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• In-house product-counsel or general advisory experience is highly preferred to support practical business applications.
• Interest in AI and experience integrating it into legal work; while technical AI depth is valued, a strong foundation in legal and commercial advisory is the priority.
• Strong drafting, project management, communication and attention to detail.
