Job summary

Exelixis, Inc. is seeking an Associate Engineer to help build AI-enabled prototypes, tools, and workflows.

You will translate requirements into small software components, write tests, and document your work while learning SDLC and responsible AI practices. You will collaborate with teammates to review code, perform basic validation, and contribute to runbooks, ensuring data privacy and security during development.

Qualifications

• Foundational programming ability in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, or similar.
• Introductory knowledge of AI, ML, LLMs and prompt engineering.
• Ability to learn and apply AI-assisted development tools with coaching.
• Clear written and verbal communication for technical and non-technical teammates.
• Commitment to responsible AI, data privacy, and information security.

Responsibilities

• Assist in building simple AI-enabled prototypes, internal tools, and workflow automations.
• Translate requirements into small software components, prompts, tests, and configuration changes.
• Support prompt engineering, basic agent workflows, and API integrations.
• Write and execute basic unit tests, validation checks, and troubleshooting steps.
• Maintain clear documentation including setup notes, design summaries, and runbooks.
