Exelixis in Alameda, CA is seeking an Associate Engineer - AI and Agentics to help build foundational AI-enabled applications, prototypes, and automations. You will translate requirements into small software components, scripts, and tests.

The role emphasizes basic prompt engineering, API integrations, unit tests, and clear documentation, with coaching from seniors. A BS in CS/AI/DS or related fields and hands-on coding in Python or JavaScript are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Software Engineering, or related field; or equivalent experience.
• Experience gained through internships, projects, or portfolio demonstrating coding, automation, AI, data, or problem-solving skills.
• Foundational programming ability in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, or similar language; coursework or projects.
• Introductory knowledge of AI, ML, generative AI, LLMs, prompt engineering, or data science concepts.

Responsibilities

• Build simple AI-enabled prototypes, internal tools, and workflow automations.
• Translate requirements into small software components, scripts, prompts, tests, and configs.
• Support prompt engineering, basic agent workflows, API integrations.
• Write and run unit tests, validation checks, and troubleshooting steps.
• Maintain clear documentation including setup notes, design summaries, prompt notes, and runbooks.
