Job summary

Exelixis Inc. is seeking an Associate Engineer - AI and Agentics to build foundational AI-enabled applications, prototypes, prompts, and automations in Alameda, CA.

You will learn SDLC best practices, security expectations, and responsible AI standards while collaborating with teammates. The role emphasizes translating requirements into small software components, scripts, prompts, and tests, with a focus on prompt engineering and API integrations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, AI, data science, software engineering, or equivalent.
• Early experience through internships, projects, research, or open-source work.
• Portfolio or project demonstrating coding, automation, AI, data, or problem-solving.
• Foundational programming in Python, JS/TS, or Java.
• Intro knowledge of AI, ML, LLMs, or data science concepts.

Responsibilities

• Assist in building simple AI-enabled prototypes, internal tools, and workflow automations.
• Translate requirements into small software components, scripts, prompts, and tests.
• Support prompt engineering, basic agent workflows, and API integrations.
• Use approved AI-assisted development tools to prototype and document.
• Write and run basic unit tests and validation checks.
• Maintain documentation, setup notes, and runbooks.
• Participate in code reviews, demos, and backlog discussions.
