Job summary

Exelixis, Inc. in Alameda seeks an Engineer I for AI and Agentic initiatives. You will prototype and deploy agent-based solutions to accelerate IT and business workflows, turning ideas into production-ready code while upholding security and responsible AI standards.

You will use tools like Claude Code, Codex, and GitHub Copilot to build agents that connect LLMs, prompts, tools, and APIs, and you’ll participate in reviews and testing to ensure reliable delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/AI/Data Science or related field with 3 years of experience; or Master's with 1 year; or equivalent combo.
• Up to 2 years of relevant AI/automation experience; hands-on with LLM-enabled apps, agentic workflows, API integrations.

Responsibilities

• Build pilot AI applications and agentic workflows.
• Prototype rapidly and evolve prototypes into maintainable code with specs and tests.
• Develop agents that automate multi-step IT and business tasks via LLMs, prompts, tools, and APIs.
• Use coding agents and modern tools to accelerate delivery (Claude Code, Copilot, Codex).
• Execute CI/CD tasks for automated testing, build validation, and versioning.
• Write docs and runbooks, architecture notes, setup instructions, SOPs, end-user guidance.
• Participate in prompt/spec reviews, code reviews, and pre-release validation.
• Follow secure-by-design and responsible AI principles per policy.
