Job summary

Nordstrom is expanding its AI Agentic Solutions team and seeks an Engineer 1 to build foundational agent components, learn LLM contexts, and contribute to production-grade agent systems. You will work under senior engineers on small, well-scoped tasks, focusing on tools, prompts, and retrieval steps.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of professional software engineering experience (internships count)
• AI Fluency — Exposure to LLMs or foundation model APIs
• Genuine curiosity about agentic AI, and desire to build production skills
• Solid CS fundamentals—data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs, JSON, and service communication
• Basic understanding of software testing practices and version control (Git)
• Willingness to learn LangGraph, CrewAI, Semantic Kernel, or Claude Agent SDK
• Strong verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

• Implement individual components of agentic solutions — tool integrations, prompt templates, retrieval steps
• Learn how context engineering is applied to agents and how LLMs and frameworks are used
• Help build and run evaluation scripts and offline benchmarks to ensure safe, accurate behavior
• Participate in on-call rotations and design reviews
• Add basic instrumentation — logging, metrics, alerts, and follow security standards
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to align with the larger solution
