Job summary

EY is seeking an experienced AI/Applied ML Engineer to build long-running agents and automated workflows that operate across complex enterprise systems. You will shape execution loops, tool interfaces, and safety controls while ensuring observable, auditable outcomes.

The role blends applied AI, distributed systems, and product engineering with a focus on durable, scalable solutions and measurable business value. Hybrid travel up to 50% may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field of study is required.
• 7–9 years of software or applied ML engineering experience with ownership of live production systems.
• Hands-on evidence of shipping large-language-model applications, agents, or complex model-driven workflows.

Responsibilities

• Choose the right execution model for agent architectures, balancing determinism and complexity.
• Build dependable tools with clear contracts, validated outcomes, and secure authorization.
• Engineer agent behavior including planning, routing, delegation, stopping, retry, and handoff.
• Create durable context from instructions, user state, memory, and environment feedback.
• Bound agent authority with scoped identities, credentials, and budgets.
• Evaluate complete trajectories with tests for task success, tool use, recovery, and human takeover.
• Operate long-running execution with durable state, checkpointing, and graceful degradation.
• Make behavior observable with end-to-end traces and replay for failure analysis.
• Protect user control with clear intervention points for inspection and safe resumption.
• Build shared capability by collaborating across teams and publishing reusable patterns.
