Job summary

Manulife Investment Management Timberland & Agriculture (MIMTA) is seeking an Analyst to evaluate agricultural investments by combining rigorous valuation and financial modelling with knowledge of farm operations, land and water markets, and crop economics.

The role supports acquisitions, portfolio management, appraisal review, and long-term planning, with travel ~10% and collaboration across global teams. Strong Excel, Power BI, and analytics are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in agricultural economics or related field.
  • Professional credentials such as CFA/CAIA are a plus.
  • Strong Excel and financial modelling proficiency.
  • Ability to analyze farm-level financial statements and budgets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain asset-level DCF and operating models for farmland and related agribusiness opportunities
  • Collaborate directly with acquisitions, regional operations, farm managers, agronomists, water specialists, appraisers, and other SMEs
  • Prepare investment committee memoranda that clearly connect operational assumptions, regional market evidence, valuation conclusions, key risks
  • Present valuation conclusions and recommendations to investment committees and respond to questions on key assumptions
  • Portfolio Management responsibilities: Develop and maintain valuation and performance models for existing agricultural investments and portfolios
  • Collaborate with portfolio managers, regional operations teams, and property managers to monitor value drivers and operating performance
  • Coordinate and review third-party agricultural appraisals analyze outputs against internal underwriting and long-term plans
  • Develop strong working relationships across Manulife Agriculture, external appraisers, farm managers, brokers, lenders, consultants, and other agricultural market participants
  • Work with global and regional teams, including business development, operations, and the sustainability team
  • Seek ways to improve underwriting, appraisal review, portfolio monitoring, data quality, and valuation capabilities
