Position Summary:

The Agriculture Garden Technician will manage multiple gardens, greenhouses, seed banks, and related tasks. The role involves physical activities such as lifting, bending, and digging outdoors in various weather conditions. Candidates must handle chemicals like pesticides or fertilizers cautiously and be willing to work on weekends as needed.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Host tours of garden and greenhouse
  • Help develop organizational protocols
  • Prepare and maintain garden and greenhouse
  • Clean gardens at end of growing seasons
  • Assist in community workshops and tutorials
  • Serve as a resource for food preservation and seed bank questions
  • Help prepare and staff exhibits at markets and community events
  • Prepare seeds for storage through threshing, winnowing, and conditioning
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Non-essential Job Functions:

  • Attend meetings, seminars, and training
  • Train volunteers, partners, or new staff as required
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Detail-oriented with organizational skills and initiative
  • Valid driver’s license and good standing
  • Flexible team player with community engagement skills
  • Experience with horticulture and operation of garden equipment
  • Reliable transportation and ability to obtain a Food Handlers Permit

Experience: One to two years related experience or training, or equivalent education and experience.

Education: Minimum high school diploma; associate degree or equivalent preferred.

Physical Abilities: Ability to lift up to 100 lbs with assistance, carry 50 lbs, bend, climb, push, and pull.

Working Conditions: Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions, potentially strenuous, with pesticides and fertilizers.
