Job summary

n8n is hiring an Agentic Engineering Platform Engineer to keep our AI-native engineering org thriving. You’ll shape safe agent behaviors, evolve platform foundations, and improve developer workflows with a focus on measurable safety and adoption metrics.

You’ll work across Security, AI/Agents, Platform, and Architecture to define boundaries, guardrails, and better integration of agents into engineering, while maintaining visibility through faster feedback, higher quality, and resilience.

Qualifications

• Must-haves: Autonomous coding agents, agent orchestration, or internal AI developer tooling.
• Must-haves: Practical experience building, deploying, or operating AI-assisted or agentic software development workflows with developers.
• Must-haves: Strong software engineering background in platform engineering, developer experience, infrastructure, tooling, CI/CD, or productivity."
• Must-haves: Comfortable leading unique technical initiatives from problem definition through pilot, adoption, and iteration.
• Must-haves: Deep understanding of GitHub, CI, testing strategies, code review, monorepos, issue tracking, developer environments, and release risk.
• Must-haves: Strong judgment around permissions, secrets, sandboxing, sensitive code paths, and human-in-the-loop review.
• Must-haves: Ability to design benchmarks, quality signals, failure tracking, and adoption metrics.
• Must-haves: Strong written communication for repo instructions, playbooks, PR templates, proposals, and alignment docs.
• Must-haves: Credibility with senior engineers to influence Platform, Product Engineering, AI, Security, and Architecture.

Responsibilities

• Define safe task categories for autonomous agents, including what they can attempt and what requires review.
• Design and implement isolated execution environments to protect secrets and limit access.
• Build pilot workflows to have selected Linear issues picked up by agents and drafted into PRs.
• Create and maintain repo instructions, agent playbooks, ownership metadata, coding guidelines, and docs to improve agent performance.
• Improve developer workflows, repo structure, testability, and documentation based on agent outcomes.
• Partner with Architecture to define boundaries, dependencies, and areas needing more context or constraints.
• Integrate agentic workflows with Linear, GitHub, CI, test infrastructure, and reviewer processes.
• Design PR evidence templates to explain changes, tests, risks, and human judgment needs.
• Collaborate with Security, AI/Agents, Platform, and Product Engineering to define guardrails for auth, billing, permissions, and data handling.
• Create benchmarks from historical tasks to evaluate agent output quality, failure modes, tests, and production risk.
• Define quality signals and adoption metrics like draft PR usefulness, reviewer acceptance, CI pass rate, and rework rate.
• Use pilot data to improve agent workflows and reduce unsafe attempts while boosting trust.
