Job summary

The Jamaica YMCA, part of The YMCA of Greater New York, seeks an Inclusion Specialist for its Afterschool program in Queens. You will foster a safe, inclusive environment for children, develop accommodations, and support social-emotional development alongside a compassionate team.

You will collaborate with staff to implement behavioral strategies, engage families, and ensure accessibility for participants with diverse abilities. This role offers hands-on leadership and community impact.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience with children under 13.
• Pediatrics CPR/First Aid preferred.
• Multilingual abilities preferred.

Responsibilities

• Welcome participants and develop inclusive programming with the Content Specialist.
• Create outreach strategies to engage those facing participation barriers.
• Ensure a safe, welcoming environment for all youth and families.
• Manage Individualized Accommodation Plans.
• Maintain behavior support plans and logs.
• Collaborate with staff, caregivers, and teachers on behavior support.
• Coordinate with Program Director to embed social-emotional development.
• Guide staff on implementing behavioral strategies.
• Communicate with DYCD about specialized supports.
• Provide trauma-informed programming and mental health resources.
• Support staff with interns to aid participant needs.
• Adhere to standards and regulations.
