Job summary

YMCA of Greater New York is seeking a part-time Group Leader for the Rockaways Afterschool program. You will supervise school-age children, deliver engaging activities, and support academic and personal growth in a safe environment.

Responsibilities include collaboration with specialists, homework assistance, and organizing age-appropriate lessons. This role emphasizes inclusivity, positive role modeling, and coordination with program staff and families.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of two years of experience with children under 13 in a group setting.
• Knowledge of ages and stages of youth development.
• Current Pediatrics CPR or First Aid certification preferred.
• General knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Strong interpersonal skills and leadership; able to work with diverse youth and adults.
• Y Afterschool programs operate Monday–Friday 2:30 p.m.–6:00 p.m. and during public-school breaks.

Responsibilities

• Ensure health, safety, and well-being of participants with supervision at all times.
• Collaborate on age-appropriate lesson plans with specialists.
• Provide academic support including homework help and tutoring sessions.
• Create engaging activities and events across SEL, fitness, STEAM, literacy, and life skills.
• Prepare lesson materials and supplies for activities.
• Coordinate and present a culminating performance when applicable.
• Support Inclusion Coordinator to assist all students.
