Job summary

YMCA of Greater New York is seeking a Group Leader for the Cross Island YMCA, Queens, to support afterschool programs. You will supervise school-age participants, help plan engaging activities, and provide homework assistance with a focus on inclusive, safe, and supportive environments.

The role emphasizes collaboration with program staff, maintaining positive relationships with families, and adherence to OCFS/DOH and partner standards. Part-time hours align with school days and breaks.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; college credits preferred.
• Minimum of two years experience working with children under 13 in group setting.
• CPR or First Aid certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure health, safety, and well-being of participants with supervision.
• Collaborate on age-appropriate lesson plans and activities.
• Provide tutoring and enrichment activities.
• Create engaging, value-based activities across SEL, fitness, STEAM, literacy, life skills, leadership.
• Prepare learning environment and supplies for activities.
• Support culminating performance and involvement in trainings and meetings.
