Job summary

YMCA of Greater New York is seeking a Group Leader for the Vanderbilt YMCA Afterschool program in New York, NY. The role focuses on providing a safe, engaging environment for school-age children and supporting learning, homework help, and enrichment activities after school.

Under supervision, you will implement age-appropriate lesson plans, collaborate with specialists, and ensure a positive, inclusive atmosphere aligned with YMCA core values.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; college credits preferred.
• Maximum of two (2) years of experience working with children under 13 in a group setting.
• Knowledge of ages and stages of youth development.
• Current Pediatrics CPR or First Aid certification preferred.
• General knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of participants with supervision at all times.
• Collaborate with Content and/or Activity Specialists on age-appropriate lesson plans that complement school day learning.
• Provide tutoring and enrichment activities (e.g., book clubs and math-based games).
• Create and implement meaningful activities and projects across SEL, physical fitness, STEAM, and leadership development.
• Prepare the learning environment, lessons, and supplies for activities.
