Job summary

Ocean City is seeking an After-School Program Coordinator to plan, implement, and evaluate weekly activities for elementary students at Ocean City Elementary School. You will assist the Recreation Supervisor, design lessons, schedule daily activities, and ensure safety and proper equipment use.

Responsibilities include supervising instructors, creating snacks, maintaining records, and communicating with parents. A high school diploma plus CPR/First Aid and a valid driver's license are required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma; training in recreation programming preferred.
  • At least one year of experience with elementary aged children.
  • CPR and First Aid certification; valid driver's license; pass drug test and background check.

Job description

Job Summary

Responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating of weekly afterschool activities for elementary aged children. The program is held at Ocean City Elementary School.

Job Duties
  • Assist Recreation Supervisor in the day to day operations of an afterschool program for elementary aged children.
  • Instruct various age appropriate recreational activities for children in Kindergarten through 4th grades.
  • Create lesson plans and weekly schedules for daily activities.
  • Set up and break down equipment for daily activities.
  • Inspect playing areas and equipment for safety and maintain and inventory equipment.
  • Create a supply list of needed supplies within a set budget and submit for purchase to the Recreation Supervisor.
  • Prepare and serve healthy snacks daily.
  • Enforce department rules and procedures and be able to administer discipline and communicate with the parents.
  • Administer basic first aid and follow all safety procedures.
Supervisory Responsibilities

May supervise hired instructors, activity assistants, and volunteers, ensuring that duties are carried out in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

Education and/or Experience

High School Diploma and preferred additional training in recreation programming. Must have at least one year of experience working with elementary aged children.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Current CPR and Basic First Aid Certification. Valid driver’s license required. Must pass a drug test and background check.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, lesson plans, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, and percentages. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Other Qualifications

Must be able to think and act quickly and remain calm under emergency situations. Must be able to make decisions promptly and work unsupervised.

Physical Demands

The employee must be able to sit/stand for long periods of time. Must be able to physically perform the specific duties of the programed activities. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, and or/feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl; talk, hear, and smell. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, run, sit, climb and/or balance. The employee regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
