Job summary

Ypsilanti Community Schools is seeking an Afternoon Custodian for the Holmes/Puentes area to maintain a clean, safe, and functional school environment after the school day.

The role involves cleaning assigned rooms, restrooms, floors, and fixtures, operating cleaning equipment, reporting maintenance needs, and securing the building at shift end. HS diploma required; lifting up to 60 pounds; strong teamwork and follow directions expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to lift up to 60 pounds safely.
• Ability to read and follow written and verbal directions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff, scholars, parents, and contractors.
• Willingness to learn locations of valves and shut-off points for utilities.

Responsibilities

• Clean assigned rooms, offices, entryways, restrooms, and specialized areas daily.
• Clean windows and fixtures as needed to maintain a presentable space.
• Clean restrooms and replenish supplies.
• Sweep hallways and clean floors on schedule.
• Mop floors in assigned areas to remove mud, spills, or tracked debris.
• Maintain custodial equipment and report malfunctions.
• Secure the building after hours and set alarms as required.
• Assist with snow removal during winter months.
• Report vandalism and maintenance needs to the Head Custodian and Director of Facilities.
• Work with Head Custodian and District Maintenance for service delivery.
• Perform additional duties related to maintenance and custodial care as assigned.
