Priority Waste Resources in Saginaw, MI is seeking a Heavy Duty Machinery Mechanic to repair and maintain refuse vehicles and heavy equipment including engine, hydraulics, electrical, and HVAC components.

You will perform engine repairs, welding, diagnostics with electronic tools, assist with DOT inspections, change oils, service tires, and complete work orders for records, while working the afternoon shift at our Saginaw facilities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years experience as a heavy‑duty technician
  • Experience maintaining refuse trucks and heavy machinery
  • Must be able to work afternoon shift
  • ASE certifications are a plus but not required
  • CDL is a plus but not required

Responsibilities

  • Maintain vehicles and equipment regularly
  • Perform engine repair and maintenance
  • Perform welding and fabrication
  • Scan trucks and troubleshoot with electronic tools
  • Perform electrical repairs
  • Assist with DOT inspections
  • Complete oil changes and grease trucks/equipment
  • Repair tires and replace as needed
  • Perform preventative maintenance to minimize downtime
  • Respond to road service calls to ensure safe return of equipment
  • Troubleshoot emissions issues
  • Process work orders and log maintenance records

Job Purpose

In your role as a Heavy Duty Machinery Mechanic, you will perform repairs and maintenance on refuse vehicles and heavy machinery including, but not limited to: vehicle refuse bodies and control systems, air brake systems, suspension, steering, suspension, hydraulics, electrical, general engine work, HVAC components, drivetrain, and chassis components.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Keeps up on maintenance of vehicles and equipment
  • Performs engine repair and maintenance
  • Performs welding and fabrication
  • Scans trucks and troubleshoots mechanical issues using electronic tools
  • Performs electrical repairs
  • Assists with DOT inspections
  • Completes oil changes and greasing trucks/equipment
  • Repairs tires, including replacement when necessary
  • Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles to enable minimal downtime
  • Safely executes road service calls when necessary to ensure the equipment is being returned in a safe manner
  • Troubleshoots emissions issues
  • Actively problem solves
  • Executes work orders and turns into Maintenance Supervisor for company records
Qualifications

The successful candidate profile includes:

  • Commercial Driver's License is a plus but not required
  • Understands work orders and labor time standards
  • Experience with maintenance to be performed on refuse trucks and heavy machinery
  • ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Certifications are a plus but not required
  • Minimum two years experience as a heavy-duty technician
  • Must be able to perform basic inspections of the following: brakes, drivetrain, emissions, hydraulics, emissions, transmissions, general engine, steering and suspension
  • Must be able to work afternoon shift
