Job summary

WVU Medicine’s Weirton Medical Center seeks an experienced laboratory supervisor to oversee daily operations across assigned areas, manage staff, and coordinate workflow to support safe patient care.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related field, valid licensure where required, and at least four years of clinical lab experience. Strong leadership, quality assurance, and collaboration with clinicians are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Cytotechnology, Histotechnology (Medical Laboratory Science) or related field.
• OR Associate’s Degree in Medical (Clinical) Laboratory Technology or related field.
• Current licensure as required by the state in which services will be provided: WV – HCTP, Cytotechnologist, Histotechnologist; PA/OH/MD no license required.
• Four (4) years of experience as a Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Technician, Histotechnologist or Cytotechnologist.
• Preferred national certifications through ASCP or AMT: MLS, MLT, CT, HTL.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Managers in supervising all lab areas to assure appropriate personnel coverage.
• Participates in orientation of new staff and input for annual performance appraisals.
• Coordinates Reference Laboratory specimens and ensures timely results.
• Coordinate downtime activities with LIS and technical staff.
• Operates and supervises lab equipment per SOPs and prepares patient specimens accordingly.
• Maintains knowledge of lab policies and Collective Bargaining Agreement as applicable.
• Responds to customer inquiries and monitors specimen processing and phlebotomy activities for issues.
