Job summary

WVU Medicine Berkeley and Jefferson Medical Centers seeks a Laboratory Services Supervisor to oversee day-to-day workflows across assigned areas, excluding Blood Bank and Phlebotomy. The role ensures appropriate staffing, quality control, and adherence to SOPs.

Ideal candidates hold a relevant Bachelor's or Associate’s degree with state licensure and 4+ years of lab experience. ASCP/AMT certifications are preferred; a sign-on bonus is available.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising the operation of laboratory services.
• (Must have 4+ years in a medical laboratory role).
• Must hold current licensure as required by the state of service (WV HCTP, Cytotechnologist, Histotechnologist).
• Preferred ASCP/AMT certifications (MLT, MLS, CT, HTL).

Responsibilities

• Assist the Managers in supervising all lab areas to assure staffing coverage and patient care.
• Participate in staff orientation and input for annual performance appraisals and disciplinary actions.
• Coordinate and ensure specimens are sent to reference labs and results returned timely.
• Coordinate LIS downtime activities with IT and laboratory staff.
• Operate and supervise laboratory equipment per SOPs and prepare patient specimens accordingly.
• Develop and revise SOPs and department policies as needed.
• Maintain knowledge of hospital policies and applicable CI (Collective Bargaining Agreement).
• Communicate with medical directors, administration, and staff to resolve issues and improve operations.
• Organize resources to optimize patient care and efficiency across units.
• Participate in staff meetings and disseminate information to personnel and nurses.
