Job summary

Qualifications

• CDA certificate and/or pursuing an AA/BA in Early Childhood Education.
• 2+ years of experience in an early childhood environment.
• Knowledge of developmental milestones and age-appropriate practices.
• Effective classroom-management techniques.
• Effective leadership and team building skills.
• High level of verbal and written communication skills.
• CPR, First Aid, MAT certification or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Assist Lead Teachers with planning and developing activities to support learning in classroom and playground.
• Support developmentally appropriate activities and play-based learning.
• Maintain a positive, nurturing classroom attitude.
• Work collaboratively within a large team of staff and teachers.
• Provide responsive customer service to parents during peak times.
• Plan, develop alternative strategies to resolve problems affecting children's health and safety.
• Understand and follow Virginia licensing requirements.

Schedule: Part Time Mondays thru Fridays 3:00 PM to 6:15 PM

The Appletree School is in search of an energetic and dynamic Assistant Teacher to join our awesome team. The chosen candidates must be able to assist the Lead Teachers with the following responsibilities:

• Understand, proactively respond and manage behavior [knowledgeable in behavior management and conscious discipline preferred]
• Understand, plan and assist in the development of appropriate activities to further the learning both in the classroom and on the playground
• Understand the value of play in a nurturing environment
• Maintain a positive attitude within the classroom and with your teammates
• Ability to work within a large team oriented children’s program
• Ability to multitask during fast paced end of day, to include customer service to parents
• Ability to plan, develop alternative strategies to resolve problems, skills to support staff and families to make decisions regarding the children’s health and safety
• Understands and follows Virginia Department of Education licensing requirements.

Requirements

To succeed in this position you will need the following:

• CDA certificate, working towards an Associates degree or a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field (preferred)
