Job summary

LeafSpring School at Virginia Beach is seeking a friendly and dedicated Assistant Teacher to support infants, toddlers, or preschoolers in a nurturing educational setting. You will help implement play-based activities, manage routines, and provide individualized attention to support social, emotional, and cognitive development.

The role offers a part-time schedule with no evenings, free meals, and opportunities for advancement.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in child care, preschool, daycare, or toddler education (preferred).
• Understanding of child development principles and DAP.
• Friendly, patient, and enthusiastic about working with young children.
• Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
• Ability to multitask, follow classroom structure, and adapt to children’s needs.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• CDA or enrollment in Early Childhood Education courses (preferred but not required).

Responsibilities

• Support daily routines including circle time, story time, snack, outdoor play, and rest time
• Assist with lesson planning and curriculum implementation based on children’s developmental needs and interests
• Supervise children during classroom transitions, group play, and hands-on activities
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment aligned with state licensing regulations
• Encourage independence, self-help skills, and social interaction through positive guidance strategies

Your Role as an Assistant Teacher

As an Assistant Teacher, you’ll work closely with the Lead Teacher to deliver a nurturing, safe, and educational classroom environment for infants, toddlers, or preschool-age children. You’ll help implement play-based learning activities, manage classroom routines, and provide individualized attention that supports each child’s social, emotional, and cognitive development.
