Job summary

YMCA SV is seeking an After School - School Age Child Care Leader in East Palo Alto, CA. This full-time seasonal role supervises youth, plans activities, supports virtual learning, and helps with nutrition and enrichment.

You must be 18+ years old, have 48 college units, CPR/First Aid, and complete YMCA prevention training. The role is on-site during program hours with hourly pay of $24–$25.

Qualifications

• Prefer prior experience working with youth and/or teens.
• CPR and First Aid certification (or within 30 days of hire).
• Complete YMCA child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire.
• Provide proof of negative TB test within the last calendar year (valid for up to 4 years).
• After School Counselor: Must be 18 years of age.
• After School Counselor: 48 semester college units required or equivalent placement planned identified by the district the individual is assigned.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety and well-being of participants by knowing locations at all times and enforcing safety regulations.
• Assist children with school-directed virtual learning.
• Implement group activity plans and prepare materials, activities, and environments.
• Interact positively with children, promoting self-esteem and respect.
• Adhere to YMCA, licensing, Public Health Department and school district policies.
• Identify pickup individuals and ensure proper release of children.
• Identify emergencies and respond quickly and appropriately.
• Model positive discipline and communicate program information to parents and teachers.
• Clean, disinfect and tidy areas used by the program.
• Follow YMCA policies for working with youth and vulnerable adults.
• Complete required abuse prevention training.
• Supervise high-risk activities and report unsafe behavior.
• Follow mandated reporting laws for suspected abuse.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
