Job summary

YMCA is seeking an After School - School Age Child Care Counselor/Leader to supervise youth, plan activities, and provide academic support. The role requires on-site work with a stated hourly pay range of $24.00 to $26.00, reflecting responsibilities in safety, learning support, and program management.

Applicants should be at least 18, have 48 college units or equivalent, and complete required trainings (CPR/First Aid, abuse prevention, TB test) within timelines.

Qualifications

• Minimum 18 years of age.
• 48 semester college units completed or alternative placement identified by the district.
• Certified in CPR and First Aid (or certified within 30 days of hire).
• Complete YMCA child abuse prevention within 30 days of hire.
• Provide proof of negative tuberculosis test within the last calendar year (valid for up to 4 years).
• Bilingual preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the safety and well-being of participants by knowing locations, enforcing safety rules, applying behavior management techniques, and maintaining equipment and facilities.
• Assist children with school-directed virtual learning.
• Implement group activity plan; prepare materials, activities, and environments.
• Engage with children positively to support self-esteem and sense of belonging.
• Adhere to YMCA, licensing, Public Health Department, and school district rules and procedures.
• Identify participants at pickup and enforce ID checks.
• Recognize emergency situations and respond quickly and appropriately.
• Provide positive discipline and consistent rule enforcement.
• Communicate with parents and teachers about schedules and permissions.
• Clean, disinfect, and tidy program spaces as needed.
• Follow YMCA policies for youth and vulnerable adults.
• Complete required abuse prevention training.
• Supervise high-risk activities and report unsafe behavior.
• Follow mandated reporting laws for suspected abuse.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
