Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Kansas City is hiring a Youth Development Leader for our Y Club before and after school program. You will lead a group of elementary-aged children through engaging activities, homework help, and games, creating a safe space where kids can grow.

Schedule is flexible mornings and/or afternoons with consistent part-time hours; starting pay is $15.50 per hour and increases with experience and education.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or equivalent required at Kansas sites.
• One year or more of college preferred.
• Previous experience working with school-age children is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise your own group of elementary-aged children, knowing where every child in your group is at all times.
• Plan and run fun, engaging activities — crafts, games, sports, homework help, and more.
• Keep kids safe by teaching and enforcing safety rules and responding quickly and appropriately in emergencies.
• Guide behavior by teaching and redirecting rather than scolding — enforcing rules firmly while treating every child with dignity and respect.
• Verify photo ID before releasing children at pickup until you personally know each authorized adult.
• Build positive relationships with kids, families, school staff, and your YMCA teammates.
• Be dependable for your scheduled shifts, follow all YMCA, licensing, and school district policies, and help keep program spaces clean and organized.

Education
