University Prep in Seattle seeks an Upper School VEX V5 Assistant Robotics Coach to mentor students in building and coding robots, fostering engineering design and teamwork.

The role emphasizes inclusive practices and social-emotional growth, with after-school practice 3:00–5:30 PM and 3–4 all-day weekend competitions; the season runs September through February. No robotics experience required, but willingness to learn is essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 2+ years of experience in school or youth environment.
• Be an employee of University Prep, or an approved contracted coach, in good standing.
• Working knowledge of VEX robotics build and coding systems, or demonstrated ability to learn quickly.
• Able to work with upper-school students in hands-on setting.
• Maintain organized systems for a shared space and materials.
• Available for full practice and competition schedule.
• Complete required background check and onboarding.

Responsibilities

• Lead practice three days per week, after school 3:00–5:30 PM; days chosen mutually.
• Attend and lead 3–4 all-day weekend competitions per season.
• Guide students in building and coding VEX V5 robots; ensure students do their own work.
• Maintain engineering notebooks with student input and guidance.
• Foster positive, supportive relationships with students and parents.
• Take photos for UPrep marketing with consent considerations.
