Job summary

BrightBee seeks an After School STEM/Coding Program Associate to support students in local schools after school hours. You will welcome students, lead engaging group activities, supervise sessions, and provide homework help to grades 3–5, fostering a positive learning environment.

You will also communicate with parents and teachers, maintain attendance and behavior records, and adapt activities to keep students motivated and included.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated understanding of STEM/Coding subject matter.
• Experience with after-school or tutoring help is a plus.
• Ability to engage and supervise groups of students.

Responsibilities

• Design and lead STEM/Coding engaging group activities; keep students motivated and participate actively across age groups.
• Provide dedicated homework assistance and small-group tutoring to reinforce core concepts.
• Maintain supervision during transitions, snack time, and recreation; apply positive behavior management and safety protocols.
• Assist daily operations: attendance, material prep, and parent updates during pick-up.

What You’ll Do

As a BrightBee After School STEM/Coding Program Associate, you’ll support students in local schools—helping them learn, grow, and succeed.

Your day kicks off by welcoming students into a safe, supportive space after school for grades 3rd-5th. You’ll help them settle in, supervise activities, and offer a hand with homework when needed. Whether you’re leading a fun group activity, lending a listening ear to a student who needs support, or making sure everyone follows program rules, you’re creating a positive environment where kids can thrive. You’ll also stay in touch with parents and teachers, keep accurate attendance and behavior records, and make each afternoon count for the students in your care.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Design and lead STEM/Coding engaging group activities, You will be responsible for keeping students motivated, ensuring high participation, and adapting activities to suit different age groups and energy levels.
• Provide dedicated homework assistance and small-group tutoring. You will help students understand core concepts, practice study skills, and complete assignments, ensuring that the after-school hours are a productive extension of the classroom,
• Maintain active supervision of students during transitions, snack time, and recreational periods. You will implement positive behavior management strategies to ensure a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment, adhering to all program safety protocols and check-out procedures.
• Assist with daily operations, including taking attendance, preparing activity materials, and maintaining a clean environment. You will also serve as a point of contact for parents during pick-up, providing brief, professional updates on student progress or behavior.

Before You Start

To keep students safe, you’ll need to:

• Pass a background check
• Follow safety and reporting guidelines
• Complete required school clearances which you are responsible for paying.
  • Costs associated with the clearance process are the sole responsibility of the candidate, as this engagement is for an independent contractor role rather than a traditional employment position. Requirements vary by state but may include the cost of a background check, obtaining a copy of any college transcript you have, and the cost of completing Mandated Reporter training. The average cost of completing clearance in California for instructional roles is between $203-$218.
