Big Ideas Educational Services is seeking a Security Guard for its after-school program in Miami Gardens. The role focuses on safety, attendance accountability, and orderly operations, with family-facing responsibilities and frontline interaction with students and parents.

The position requires readiness to learn Brightwheel, greet families, enforce safety procedures, and collaborate with site leadership to ensure a welcoming, secure environment for students and families after school.

Qualifications

• Must be a current MDCPS employee.
• High school diploma or higher.
• Must successfully meet Level 2 background screening and clearance requirements.
• Experience in a school, childcare, youth program, security, or related environment preferred (1–2 years).
• Experience working with elementary-aged students and families preferred.
• Willingness and ability to learn and consistently utilize Brightwheel.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a visible and professional security presence throughout assigned program areas and school premises.
• Patrol designated areas to address potential safety or security concerns.
• Monitor entrances, exits, doors, gates, and designated access points during program hours.
• Authorize entrance and departure of staff, families, visitors, vendors, and others per procedures.
• Help prevent unauthorized individuals from entering designated program areas.
• Support safe arrival and dismissal procedures.
• Learn and consistently use Brightwheel for daily operations.
• Verify student attendance, arrivals, departures, and authorized pickups via Brightwheel.
• Ensure students are signed in/out and report discrepancies promptly to the Site Manager.
• Follow procedures for authorized pickups and student release.
• Greet students and families to create a welcoming environment.
• Communicate clearly with parents and caregivers.
• Direct enrollment, attendance, behavioral, or other program concerns to the appropriate staff.
• Maintain professionalism and boundaries in communications with students and families.
• Assist with managing parent and pickup traffic during dismissal.
• Remain alert to safety concerns and report to site leadership.
• Respond to alarms, disturbances, emergencies, or unauthorized activity on school property.
• Contact emergency services when required by procedures.
• Help protect students, staff, visitors, and property.
• Follow emergency procedures (evacuation, lockdown, etc.).
• Collaborate with Site Manager and staff to address safety concerns.
• Follow schedules provided by supervisors.
• Complete incident documentation and report notable concerns.
• Follow policies, handbook expectations, and chain of command.
• Participate in meetings, Brightwheel and safety training, and site activities.
• Perform other reasonable safety and site-support duties.
